This is not proof of you engaging the brake, it just shows at the time that the vehicle didn’t move.
//snip//
the only way you could prove the brake has failed is if there is some sort of mechanical evidence.
Assuming the EPB successfully deployed, it would require a positive command from the associated ECU to retract it - without the application of 12V (or mechanical force), the motor cannot move (it would require a massive effort to reverse it against its internal gearing). The motor can be (slowly) unwound through the application of a suitable tool.

I noted the other day, that I had to operate the Tucson's EPB switch THREE times, before it actually did anything :o . Each time, I got a nice positive 'click' from the switch, but no deployment of the EPB. (My 'other-half' reckons I don't hold the switch up long enough - she may well be right!).

Of course, the car is setup to automatically deploy the EPB, but that doesn't always happen either- no doubt it is for some justifiable, algorithmic reason - but the car doesn't see fit to inform me! (This car can talk when it wants to. It also has several large display screens... )

The most likely scenario, is that the EPB simply wasn't deployed. I have certainly managed to do that in the past, though thankfully, without any ill effects

Just an after-thought: Did the Door Bell camera manage to capture the sound of the EPB deploying :?: The sound is quite distinctive.

Without meaning to sound ‘holier than thou’, I always glance at the instrument binnacle on switching off to ensure the EPB lamp has illuminated.

HI, Can i ask what the outcome was. I am having the same problem at the minute with mine. It has rolled in shopping centre carpark into other cars after about 40 minutes of parking up. Car currently in with Hyundai but they cant find the fault. Thanks Katie

In almost every case, driver error is to blame. Were there any other reason, it would have manifested itself again during thorough testing.

Believe it or not folks, this has happened to me too. Can't believe it haha.
Happened about 2 months ago. Slight incline to my drive, heard a crash and went outside to see my car up against my wheelie bins.
Smashed the rear tail light and caused a dent to the right hand side of the fuel cap.
This happened 3 hours after i had last driven it?
So my question would be why did it take 3 hours?
Tho i am personally not ruling out i am to blame...
Tho have now started parking in 1st gear just in case.
Not bothering my arse chasing it or anything as i wouldn't have a leg to stand on haha.

The friction of the car must have been almost exactly balancing the force due to gravity...
...then some butterfly flapped its wings in the Amazon and all hell broke loose :(

Wind? Vibration?

I been talking to people at work about this type of incident and most people I speak to do not leave their car in gear. I find this very odd and maybe an UK thing as I know in Canada when you take driver training it is drilled into you that you must leave the car in gear. It is also in the written exam.

It's a very long time since I sat my test, so I've no idea what's included in the test and driver training nowadays.
I've always seen leaving the car in gear as a common sense thing, something that appears to be sadly lacking today.
