What type of gearbox is in the Hybrid 230??
There's reference to DCT gearboxes on other models, but for this one it always appears as 6AT - whatever that means?

Yeah, I know what a DCT is - but what on earth is a 6AT. I can't find any reference to the actual type of box.
Is it a torque converter type? If so then I didn't think they shifted gears as quick as it does (or appears to). I had a Karoq 1.5TSI with a DSG(DCT) and it feels almost identical in characteristics.

As I said it means 6 speed automatic transmission and it is a torque convertor.
I came to this car from DSG Skodas and I find this 6AT gearbox every bit as smooth as the DSG. There is some jerkiness on a few occasions, but that's due to engine power mixing with electric power.
Because the next gear is ready for you in a DSG, I found it better and quicker to kickdown than this 6AT. Other than that and the tendency for the Hyundai 6AT to hold onto gears too long when going uphill, I find the way this 6AT drives very acceptable.

Thanks for clearing that up, I wasn't sure if it was a torque converter type.pharaoh wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 11:31 am As I said it means 6 speed automatic transmission and it is a torque convertor.

The 6AT gearbox is a sequential auto-box, containing 6 forward ratios (no reverse!). The engine connects via an ON/OFF type clutch (it is never slipped) to the electric motor, thence the gearbox.
Moving off is always under the control of the electric motor (forwards or backwards). When a gearchange is required (or when the ICE is to be connected), the Hybrid Starter Generator (HSG) spins it (the ICE) to match the speed of the transmission and drops the clutch.
N Line S Hybrid (HEV).

Good easy read to get your head around the technology.italianjob1970 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 10:18 am Sorry if this has already been posted/discussed...

I'd read in my early days of ownership that it was a torque convertor.
