Whilst approaching a set of traffic lights up a slight hill. The brakes failed and I had to perform an emergency stop. The whole system then failed with no drive or reverse. Eventually turned off whole system and restarted car.
Car is 2022 Tuscon HEV.

Welcome to the forum, ‘Merlyn48’.

That sounds rather frightening but there must be more to the story. I’m sure readers of these pages would welcome a little more information, such as where is the car now? Has the fault been diagnosed/corrected? Was it/will it be fixed under warranty?

If the brakes failed, how did you perform an emergency stop?

I can’t wait for the OP’s follow-up post.😁

Taking a wild guess, I think the car stalled for a reason unknown or unreported here. Driving slowly up a slight hill towards traffic lights, the OP utilised the EPB which stopped the roll-back? Skipping the bit about the whole system failing/no drive, somehow when re-started, all was well?......or was it?

Without meaning to be unkind, I’m thinking driver error here but the bit about system profiles being forgotten is lost on me in this circumstance. I note that the model concerned is one of those ’Tuscons’ that crop up quite frequently here and seem to be beset with problems unheard of in the Tucson model.🙄 Apologies to any genuine dyslexic members.

I can assure that there was no driver error here and the car did not stall. It is currently on my drive waiting to go to the dealer. I am very familiar with the route and as I approached the queue of traffic I was feathering the brakes to glide to a stop. When the brakes failed totally. I used the EPB to stop. I was only doing about 10 mph at the time I applied the EPB.
The engine would rev but would not go into drive or reverse.
Switched off totally, to the annoyance of drivers behind, and restarted, all was apparently well. So took the quickest and safest route home.
Booked into dealer on 6th Feb. So will post more after that.
PS There where no error messages displayed.

Ok, I’m sure other members will, like myself, be interested to discover what the dealer finds, particularly as no error message was produced. I won’t be around from the 5th onwards as I shall be in hospital for a few days, provided I survive the surgery I must have. If I survive, I may be able to regain permission to drive if I recover successfully.

Good luck on getting the issue resolved with KIA.

It's fair to say that I do not fully understand the workings of modern cars. I am more of a tappets and pushrod man. So when I get little niggling faults like climate control resets and front parking sensors alerting for no apparent reason. I assume they are all connected.
I don't understand how the engine could stall when my foot is hard on the brake as surely the clutch should be disengaged.
In case your wondering, when feathering isn't working the natural reaction is to go hard down.

is it possible that the engine stalling caused the loss of pressure in the brake assist system (vacuum) and thus required a more vigorous press on the brake pedal? It can be very difficult to press the brake pedal as hard as required for a stop without brake assistance.
