Hi there, we were unable to open the doors of our 2 year old Tucson, with either fob with new batteries.

The AA believe that the car battery is being drained when the car is plugged into our home charger.

Has anyone had this experience?

That seems rather odd in that a plug can draw power out rather than send in. Surely that in itself would send a surge and trip the charger. I say the previous sentence with absolutely low knowledge of electrics but anyway the AA reasoning seems odd. What I would say though is that if you use a home charger(such as the domestic plug supplied by Hyundai) on a PHEV it definitely keeps the onboard USB and associated elements on that would be connected. I know this because when I use the slow trickle charger(as I am having issues with my 7.5kw - awaiting Engineer from Wallbox) is that when I am on a 10amp charge(every single time) the Wireless Android Auto dongle AND my Dashcam become powered during charge. I know this as If I receive a phone call and I'm sitting near the window then my bluetooth will pick up on the Adapter and I cannot hear them or my Wifi drops and connects to Data because it thinks it is interfacting with the dongle. This does sometimes, but rarely, ocurr when using the 7.5kw charger though.

Potentially then IF the charger wasn't sending power but the car thought it was plugged in and something in the car was drawing power it "could" possibly drain the battery.

Simac: The AA information doesn't make sense.
If you're putting power IN, then how can it drain anything?
The battery that you are charging in the PHEV is 14kWh and is NOT the regular car battery, they're completely separate systems.

I'd recommend a chat or visit to your dealers Service team to see what (if anything) is draining the battery.
It could simply be that you have something plugged in to a live socket, such as a dashcam of dongle etc, or the battery is faulty.
I would expect car batteries to last longer than 2 years, but.....

If that's not at fault, then perhaps hae your domestic electrics checked.

I think the AA man is confusing your car with another make/model as there are a few cars out there that will allow you to drain the main power train battery and direct it back to your house. Have a read here https://www.theecoexperts.co.uk/electri ... e-charging
