NOW HAD 2025 TUCSON 1.6 HYBRID ULTIMATE FOR TWO WEEKS
Hi, it's just over two weeks since I took delivery of my 2025 Tucson and must say I am very impressed with it. I'm still getting to grips with all the intricacies of the infotainment system but so far so good. I've already made a return journey from Ashford, Kent to Liverpool and despite the heavy traffic virtually all the way, it was a total pleasure to drive and a great step up from my previous car (Kona Hybrid).

We’ve had ours 3 weeks, we had our previous Tuscon Hybrid for 2.5years the new model is certainly in my opinion a far better car, far smoother drive train a lot quieter thanks to the laminated front windows, in fact my wife came back from shopping this morning and remarked she couldn’t believe how much better it was to drive than our previous one, only gripe she had was the head up display which she hates.
Hi Pogleswood, It certainly is pretty quiet and a smooth drive, and the ability to easily deactivate the speed limit "bonging" is great. My wife drove it for the first time this morning and really liked it - so win win all around. I've just asked her if she found the head up display OK and she actually liked it. I think that once your wife gets used to it she'll come to find it a handy asset.
I've had mine for a week now. Very happy with it apart from a couple of things:
1. When accelerating from standstill, the engine sounds quite rattly, almost like a pinking sound (for those that are old enough to remember pinking). Maybe just different from what I'm used to (3-litre straight 6 BMWs) but I wondered if yours is the same?
2. The passenger-side rear seat doesn't seem fully locked in place - if you push on the head rest, the seat moves back slightly and then rebounds. Again, I'm curious to know if that's normal for this car?
Thanks

This engine in the Tucson is a very different beast to a straight 6 BMW motor. It is not the quietest motor under hard acceleration, but it shouldn't be pinking or even sound like it.
Re the rear seats; There's a lever at the botton corner of each seat. If you pull this fully up the backrest will fold forward and almost flat. To return the backrest to the upright position, pull up the lever again whilst at the same time using your other hand to raise the backrest. The backrest once up, can either be directly upright or reclined in increments, so once you have it at a suitable angle, let go of the lever and the backrest should lock in place. You may have to give the lever a bit of a push downwards just to ensure the backrest is locked in place.
Thanks for your reply. I'm going to call in at the dealer's today and see what they think about the engine - as you say probably just different from the sound I'm used to.pharaoh wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 10:00 am This engine in the Tucson is a very different beast to a straight 6 BMW motor. Regarding the seats, I've got them in the fully reclined position and it seems locked, but there's just a bit of movement, half an inch or so. Maybe it's just because it's not fixed to the seat next to it, but again I'll ask the dealer.
Apart from those two minor issues, it's a fantastic car.
My rear seat backrests are pretty solid, just a modicum of flex on the smaller one (nearside).MrChumley wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 10:25 amThanks for your reply. Do you have the hybrid model, of just a standard ICE ?
To be clear, there is no movement at all in the mechanism that operates the backrest, only a very slight flex in the backrest itself, and it is VERY slight.
Re the engine; I don't know if the latest Hybrid can be had with a manual gearbox, so I'm assuming yours is an auto. Under nomal driving conditions and even when pulling away, this car is pretty peaceful because the autobox takes care of everything. The only times the engine will become noisier are when using kickdown, if using the gearbox manually via the steering wheel paddles and when climbing hills when the gearbox has a tendency to hold onto a lower gear for longer than you might be used to in other autos.
Even when under stress, although the engine will become noisier, it should not be making a pinking noise.
If perchance yours is a manual box, then yes you will notice engine noise and you have been spoiled by a straight 6. Unless you have a Friday car, I think it's just a matter of adaptation to the peculiarites of a different vehicle.
Just looked at a couple of others in the showroom and the rear seats are the same, so that’s all good. The engine sounded better today as well, maybe a combination of it bedding in and me getting used to it. I’ll stop hijacking this thread now and see how it goes over the next few weeks.
