Hi, we've just bought a Tucson Ultimate AWD PHEV.
We've switched from our Kia Sportage GTLine S PHEV, after it being our 4th one, each better than the last, but the facelift Sporty isn't due to arrive until mid 2025 and madame likes us to change every 3 years! We have solar, batteries and charger, so a PHEV made sense to us as we just had switched to solar.
We're still unsure about going full EV and looked at the EV3 which we thought too small, and the Ioniq5 which we thought the metal side panelling looked cheap, and the fast back didn't provide headroom for our 2 labs. Again, the EV5 isn't available, which would be a similar size to the Sporty.

The Tucson does have the new facelift dash and interior, which the Sporty will no doubt have, when available.
We were lucky, getting our PHEV in a few weeks after ordering in Feb 2022, and many others had to wait many months for their orders to be delivered.
That was another factor, the Zilina production line has such an arcane method of production that no one knows when their order will be delivered, some almost instantly, others many months.
We know our Tucson is already in Tilbury and will take delivery early December, if all goes well. :)

So that's me, a happy Korean car owner and a bit sad to move from Kia and the Sporty, but the Tucson is virtually the same under the skin, and we want to be as happy with it as we are with our Sporty. Much of our driving is local, within EV range and topping up the car and batteries at off peak rates makes it virtually free (ignoring the installation costs! :) ) so much so that, before the price rises we paid £57 a month, after having solar installed it reduced to £40 a month plus with the export we are £140 in credit and Octobers bill was just £0.62p on top!

Hope to hear from other PHEVvers.

Hi ‘KevinBattle’ and welcome aboard.

You will quickly discover that this forum is much less dynamic than the KIA one you have been involved with over recent years. That said, there are some excellent subscribers who are very knowledgeable about matters electronic in particular and you will find many conversations with which you are familiar from the KIA forum.

Hopefully, your nearest Hyundai dealer will be first rate as mine is. I look forward to hearing your views on the AWD version of the PHEV when you take delivery. At this time of year, AWD is a valuable option and just yesterday, I lost grip briefly on a couple of occasions which serves to remind me that when tyre change time comes around, I shall invest in a set of all-season rubber, probably Michelin CC2 but it depends on price and whether Costco have an offer available.

Welcome to the forum, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the Tuscon.

We purposely avoided the Sportage as where we live everyman & his dog has the current generation Sportage and generally they’re the biggest bunch of t*** drivers. 😁 probably doesn’t help nearly all of them are in their 70’s….

Ouch! Don't think that was me!! :)
Ours was one of the first Gen 5 Sporty's on the road and it was MONTHS before we saw any others, due to supply issues etc.
Obviously there are now more, nearly 3 years in and one of the highest selling cars, plus the boomerang DRL's make them very conspicuous.

We've had 4 Sporty's and our dealer has always capitulated to madames bargaining wiles, so we get extremely good deals.
We would have got a good deal again, but without any changes, what was the point? Same as, same as and we've loved our Sporty PHEV :)
In fact I think the petrol cap may be rusted in, we use petrol as little as possible.

The new Tucson is simply a Sporty in disguise  and with the new dash it's ahead of the Sporty facelift, which made the shift to Yundy easier :)
As with your comment on the Sporty with "every man and his dog" (me again? :) ) well, the Gen 5 is still rare in these parts of the South Coast (username may be a clue) whereas I see many more new style Tucsons than Gen 5 Sporty's!!
As for driving like a t***, (almost 50 years spotless licence so hopefully not me) I think German made car drivers are much much worse, with them not having any indicator stalks or knowledge of UK speed limits :)

But the standard of many drivers is poor, especially at roundabouts, whereas we are always the epitome of excellent driving and manners :)

But thanks for the welcome and we may even pass each other somewhere :)

Hi Kevin, I remember you being very helpful on the Kia Sporty forum when I was there from 2012-2016. I jumped to a Tucson then (the new Sporty wasn’t for me, had a face only a mother could love IMHO!) and been very happy with my switch to Tucsons since then.
I get about 70 mpg overall in my PHEV over 24k miles (most of my local journeys are electric, but long-distance in HEV mode (570 miles one-way) I get 45+ mpg, not bad for a 1.6 petrol engine with that weight!
Cheers 🍻

DocD Hi, nice to find you again! Remind me, what's mpg? :)
We have solar and batteries so charge every night on Octopus Go off peak for 5 hours, using the Set Charge Time in the car infotainment screen.
Just plug it in when finished driving for the day and it's topped up for the next day.
Much of our driving is local, so it's in EV mode unless we have the occasional long trip outside EV range.

We were considering going full EV and wanted to ensure we'd have DELIVERY before 1st April when EV's over £40k get hit with the VED and "luxury" supplement.
But the EV3, Niro and Kona were too small and the Ioniq5 seemed to steep a fastback for the dogs to sit up in the boot.

The EV5 won't be here till mid 2025 nor will the Sportage facelift (losing those iconic boomerang DRL's, boo hoo).
Not much point just getting exactly the same again, would have kept it for another year, but madame wanted a change.....
The Tuscon has had the fascia lift (see what I did there :) ) and it's virtually the same as our Sporty GTLine S so that's how we ended up here.

I will add they’re out numbered by Nissan Qashqai’s which seem to be the mobility car of choice around here……..now they are a special bunch of drivers 🤫

We've now taken delivery and very smart she looks.
Madame most impressed with the Head Up display, so that's a good sign :)
Seems a little quieter too :)
Good graphics on the infotainment screen
However, compared to our similar spec 2022 Sportage GTLine S AWD PHEV it seems Hyundai haven't noted a few things Kia changed on the Gen 5... the rear indicators are still down at bumper level, whereas Kia moved them to the light cluster.
The way to switch between the aircon/heating/ventilation settings and infotainment is simply done with a touch of the haptic screen for either aircon which gives a full display of the options or the infotainment options.
The doors also had a nifty raised hand grip halfway along the inside door trim, making it much easier to close when doors fully open.
The emergency key fitted neatly into the fob, but Hyundai give you a USB type separate stick.

Little "niggles" (which is often the case when switching from one car to another) but with the cars being virtually identical it's "interesting" how 2 design teams can come up with clever ideas but then don't merge them into one "ideal" version.

Anyway, lots of enjoyment to come :)
