Hello folks. We've recently returned from a week's holiday here in the UK. I just run the car in hybrid mode, not bothering to try to top up on electric and after deducting the few miles the electric range went down we covered 808 miles on petrol at a rate of 51.66 mpg (3 top ups, brim to brim) which I think is pretty good. Speed was kept to no more than 70 on motorways etc and there were periods on the M1 when speed was restricted to 50mph. Anyway, quite pleased with that result.

Good to hear someone extolling the virtues of the Tucson mpg rather than rubbishing it because they can't get more than 30mpg. I think 51mpg is great for a petrol car of this size.
I managed recently to achieve 52mpg, but not over a whole journey. Being a low mileage driver nowadays I don't set out to achieve frugal mpg figures, but I was pretty chuffed to see that on my dash.

Hi Pharaoh. I don't set out with the aim of maximising the mpg, but I do like to keep a track of it As you say 50+ is decent for a vehicle of this size and weight, although last week it might have been helped by the 50 limit I had to stick to for quite a while on the M1. I think plug-in is the way to go if you don't do a big annual mileage-EV for short journeys and petrol for long ones. Good economy and no range anxiety-what could be better?

My Tucson is the HEV version. I studiously avoided the PHEV as I don't want a plug in car at present and for me, the extra cost of the PHEV just wasn't value for money.
When I stop doing driving holidays abroad I will consider a full electric car if the prices come down.

This sounds about right. Long journeys tend to average between 45 and 50mpg for me depending on how much is motorway. Overall I'm now averaging 78mpg over 13,500 miles. It would be better but that includes two trips to France and more long distance business trips than I would have liked over the last year.
