Fuel consumption

It’s just for petrol range, although you’ll find depending on speed/road conditions/EV use that it will quite often drop slowly, it’s based upon your average fuel consumption which again if affected by the above. Many times in my previous Hybrid on filling it up range would say 495 miles range but after 30 miles of driving had only dropped to 489 miles range, really depends on how you drive, in our previous Tuscon Hybrid with 32k miles, got near to 600 miles out of a tank, having just taken delivery of 2024 Ultimate Hybrid with full tank on delivery we’ve done 335 miles and range indicator reads 252 miles left.
Whatever it says, err on the side of caution. In the early days of ownership I was abroad - distance readout read 79 kms of range left, sat nav said I had 5 kms to my destination. All of a sudden a blaring alarm appeared on the dash to warn me there wasn't enough fuel to reach the destination. Big panic, but luckily I was very near a fuel station.
I rarely, if ever let the fuel gauge in any car drop below a quarter full. Years ago it was mainly to prevent any dross and sludge getting sucked up into the carburettor, but nowadays with all the traffic on the road and motorway stoppages, it always pays to have some fuel in reserve.

A few months ago in our previous Tuscon Hybrid, because of an over night road closure and long detour ended up getting to petrol station with 3 miles showing on range, once filled it switched off at 48 litres, now assuming tank is 55 litres as stated in manual that left approx 7 litres in the tank.
I believe the range is a calculated figure based on the current mpg and how much petrol is in the tank - it is in my Skoda. So if you try and use EV mode as often as possible the mpg will go up and so will the range. If you drive it like you stole it, which would mean little or no EV mode, both the mpg and the range would come down. In the winter the mpg will go down because the ICE is running far more as the ambient temp is lower and there's more load from heated seats, mirrors etc so expect the range to go down when there is a full tank of petrol compared to summer.

I have had my new 2025 full hybrid N Line S for 2 days now and only done a relatively small number of miles. The first time out (about 35 miles) I only got 29 mpg although in moving around the drive previously had nearly exhausted the traction battery. Second time out (28 miles) I got 36 mpg. My previous 2022 Tucson hybrid averaged me 47 mpg so I was wondering why the consumption was so high on the new one. Even taking account of any "wearing in" it seemed too high.
Then! Whilst going through all the settings I found that the mpg had been set to "US Gallons" and once changed to "UK Gallons" the mpg average reset to 43 mpg. What a relief.

Glad you got that sorted! I was, and remain, fairly satisfied by the overall fuel economy of my ’23-model HEV. Initially, I ignored the fuel/mileage arithmetic as I was intent on ‘running-in’ the new car and only very gradually increased my use of higher revs until my self-chosen target of 1,000 miles arrived.
Since I began recording the mpg per brim-to-brim refuels, I have always averaged mid-40s mpg. Recently, I zeroed the overall fuel usage monitor so I can determine how the situation is purely over the coldest months. So far, I have averaged low 40’s and that is without trying hard as if each drive is an economy test. I make plentiful use of all electrics and Climate Control, never skimping on my comfort in an effort to eke out more mpg.
After many years of diesel economy, I am perfectly content with this Hyundai 1.6 turbo in its 227 BHP....or PS.....I can’t remember

Glad to hear it! I too was very impressed with my 22 reg tucson which is why, after a short break, I've bought the 25 facelift.Indalo1 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 10:05 amGlad you got that sorted! Mine is rubbish in winter (mid 30's) but my wifes, a year younger is much better. One reason why I'm looking forward to the new one.
