I'm new to mild hybrid tucsons , my question is , I've noticed a fan noise coming from the mhev battery in the boot of my car , it's loud enough to be noticed in the cabin and comes on regularly when driving short distances .
When I shut the engine off the fan noise stops after about 5 mins but I'm concerned at how loud the fan is when it's on ? Is this normal , can anyone else hear their mild hybrid battery fan in their car? It honestly sounds like I've got tinnitus!
Mhev battery fan noise
It will be interesting to see what other MHEV owners have to say about this.
The Tucson cabin is quite a peaceful place to be, so I would be miffed if a noisy battery fan was disturbing me.
You don't say whether your car is new or used.
Have you lifted up the boot floor when the fan is on to ascertain if it's the fan that's noisy, or whether maybe there's something fouling it ?

Hi , it's a 2020 model n line , I've lifted up the boot floor and the polystyrene cover and it's definitely coming directly from the mhev battery , I've taken the inlet pipe off but there is nothing in there although some debris could have potentially been sucked in as there is no filter on the pipe , but the noise is very constant and doesn't fluctuate so I am presuming it's a fan as when it shuts down you can hear the fan decreasing in speed until it stops , if the noise is common to this system, great but I would like to hear from other Mhev model owners to see if their fans run noisy too ?
That's more and better info which gives readers more to work with.
It's always a good idea when asking questions, to state what year and model your car is, and also where you're located.
You may have to wait a while for an answer, as most members that populate these pages seem to have the later model than yours.
Good luck with it.

Welcome to the forum, ‘Loggi’.
I shall be interested to read any replies you receive from MHEV owners and, rather stating the obvious, I’m presuming here that the reason you raise the matter is because you believe the noise level is greater than you would normally associate with any fan in a car.
Rather than point you in the direction of a Hyundai dealer so you can ask the question there and probably attract the response, ‘It’s normal Sir; they’re all like that.’, it might be useful to organise a test drive in a similar model so you can gain your own informed judgement about the noise level.
There is quite a number of MHEV owners within the forum and I’m sure if you look in again in a day or two, one or two may assist by describing the fan noise level in their cars, if indeed it is audible to them.

Hi Indalo1
Yes I just want to ascertain whether the noise is normal before doing battle in the world of the Hyundai Warranty! I know these fans are around £350 to buy and probably a couple of hundred to fit so if the noise is normal I will just put up with it but I can't honestly believe that something this annoying got past the designers of the Tucson, who knows ? I await eagerly for any replies that can shed a bit of light on this!

It might be worth posing your question on this other forum as well.
It's very quiet and not well populated, but you never know your luck.

Hi
I'm having this same problem on my 21 plate Tuscon mild hybrid . Have noticed it previously but seems to be a little louder than before. Sort of a constant drone coming from the boot whenever the engine is turned on - really annoying when at a standstill or pottering around at 10mph but hardly noticeable at 30mph and usually not audible with the stereo on.
Just debating whether or not to take it in to Hyundai and see if I can get a repair/replacement under warranty. Overall not impressed with local dealerships and their service and attitude

Never heard anything in my 2024 MHEV, the cabin is one of the quietest I've ever sat in (and I change cars a lot). It could be because my car is still new, I'd be disappointed to have a rattling cooler spoiling the silence in a couple of years.
