Rotating the tyres around is something I've always done - though not for any "technical" reason - I just discovered that I could negotiate a better price for 4 new tyres, than for 2
Also, it provides an opportunity for an inspection of bits of the vehicle that you wouldn't normally get to see. I don't believe it was done by the dealer at my Tucson's first service. (somewhere, I've seen 5000 miles as a suggested interval)
(It turns out, that I have never done it properly - I used to simply swap them front to back, rather than left-to-right at the same time. )

Yeah looking at that i would read it as all cars have their tyres rotated but for AWD the greatest tread depth at the back where as for FWD the greatest tread depth would be at the front.kassy64 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 4:13 pm Having looked at the above again, it could also be read that tyres are rotated on all vehicles, but with the proviso for 4WD vehicles the greater tread goes to the rear, with 2WD vehicles the tyres are rotated regardless of wear. Typical Hyundai ambiguity, the more I look at it, the more I believe this to be the definition.
But i suppose it is completely open to interpretation...

Good to see great feedback from members. Thank you for the proactive responses from everyone.
Although I have reasonable legal tread, after 2 years I'm more concerned about the quality & safety potentials. UK road deterioration being what it is (and Italian farm roads ). I plan to replace the 2 worst tyres every 2 years.
I guess therefore I'm looking for the best adhesion in all weather, treadwear not so critical.
Once again thanks.

What about the tyre pressure sensors? Will they need to be changed or will the system recognise that the tyres have been swapped?

There won’t be a problem as I have previously swapped wheels around after tyre changes on a KIA with exactly the same TPMS as on the high-end Tucson models. The system is basically dumb, being purely concerned with pressure and with no understanding of geography.

Vote number 2 for Michelin Cross Climate 2s. I converted several years back when I put Cross Climates on my old X-Trail, and then recently replaced them with CC2s. They provide decent feel, as well as good traction in all conditions; for an all-season tyre they are amazingly capable.

Fantastic gadgets and tech, shame about certain "Safety" features...
(Lane Keeping Assistance having to be manually disengaged every start up, I'm looking at you!)

But when I got a nail in a rear tyre, the display showed me the correct one to look at on the screen, so it DOES know which wheel is which.Indalo1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 12:11 pm

The system seems to re-learn automatically.
Last time I did a tyre rotation, I noticed that the wheel that was 1psi down on the rest, was still showing in its original position, but a little while later, it 'moved' to the correct place.

The loss of pressure in the wheel at that particular corner was what the system recognised. Had that leaking tyre been elsewhere on the car, then the wheel at whichever corner the wheel had been fitted would have displayed the lower pressure.
