I recently changed my Ioniq 5 (mainly because of range anxiety) for a new Tucson PHEV facelift and I'm finding the fuel consumption, well not great to say the least. I generally use the car for short journeys where it shines in EV mode but two longer runs have me concerned. The first run was 100 Km non motorway with the car in automatic mode and I got a respectable return of 50 mpg. A second longer run of a 470 Km return trip with the car in hybrid mode on the first half gave a reading of 32 mpg and on the return in automatic mode I got 42 mpg. Perhaps I was spoiled by the figures of over 60 mpg from my last ICE car, a diesel A class Merc but to get half that is a bit annoying. The car is only about a month old so perhaps my driving style will improve things, but I'm not holding my breath. I was wondering if the earlier models were any different?.

Your car will run in EV mode of course until the EV is depleted and then goes into HEV mode which might get you around 35+ MPG depending on speed and pedal control etc. My daily short trips are around 38kms so slow speeds but for the first 4 kms I'm in a blend of EV and Petrol because the car hasn't reach operating temperature as I have the blowers turned on(warmer up cabin) and when that reaches temperature the Full EV mode kicks in until depleted.

I have a 2023 and I have taken the car to France and the UK a few times and yes I get lower MPG figures but speaking in Litres per 100km on the UK trip (where i never charged it) I was getting an Average of around 5.4ltr per 100 which is about 52mpg. I'm okay with that as my former Diesel would be higher but not by too much at 120kmh on many stretches of road.

Currently as I've not done any large trips and I charge all the time I am currently as 0.5 today which is 565MPG

Thanks Berty. I forgot to mention that my last run was at a more or less constant 120 kph motorway driving in ECO mode. I guess that by lowering my cruising speed I could improve things a little. Like you I also keep the car charged and in EV mode it is ideal but has to be charged every second day which is better than refueling every week.
