HI all,
New to the forum but looking for some advice. My Tucson went for its MOT today and failed due to the following
Major
Offside Rear Axle swivel pins and bushes swivel pin and/or bush excessively worn (5.1.2 (b) (i))
Advisory
Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (1.1.13 (a) (ii))
Offside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
I'm just wondering if these are big jobs and rough costings. I know the pads and tyres are straight forward
Also what's the interval for the timing chain?
Thanks
Dan
Costing advice
Hi Dan,
Replacing the axle swivel pin (just a bolt) and the bushing isn't a big job (with an appropriate tool for installing the bush, you can DIY it on your driveway if you are so inclined), but will probably run 2 - 3 hours of labour per side. Cost varies a lot based on the vehicle, and I don't know the costs for a Tucson, but plucked from the air, I wouldn't be surprised for a quote to be in somewhere between £200 and £350 per side.
As for the timing chain, it depends on the age of your Tucson. Prior to 2010, I believe the service interval on the timing chain was 60k miles. Since then, Hyundai have been listing the timing chain as a lifetime part, which of course doesn't mean it will never need replacement, but shouldn't be necessary unless there are warning signs that it is giving up.
