I hope admin have no objection.
With my Sportage, i purchased a Dongar splitter which allows the illuminated mirror feed to be split to provide a feed for a dashcam cable out of the centre windscreen housing.
It's so much neater and is simple to install - well, it must be 'cos I did it!!
https://dongar.tech/products/hyundaikia
They also have instruction videos showing how to install it, the chap does it one handed whilst filming - must be a gynaecologist!
You can get it direct from Amazon (and probably elsewhere) but add in about £14 for Shipping Costs on the Dongar price it still comes out cheaper by buying direct.
This updated version is more robust then the earlier one I bought but the wires snapped when the dashcam fell off the screen.

I have no connection to Dongar or benefit in any way, just wanted to make it known here as I can't seem t get the Search facility to work.

Mine is great, in the car since I have it. I even told the dealer about it who was charging people €150 incl install and dashcam(good value for those who want an easy life I think). I said why don't you just bulk buy those Dongars and make everybodies life a little easier for time/money and his reasoning against it was that it doesn't give the customer a choice if they want parking mode or always on mode which the rear view mirror will not offer.

Otherwise I agree Dongar are a good piece of kit.

Be careful with this, the wrong camera, particularly in an HEV, could cause an excessive drain on the 12v battery.

That’s a good point but if parking mode can be disabled, it shouldn’t be a problem. Previous experience has led me to disabling that facility as my previous car was twice damaged badly while parked in an unmonitored, public car park and the parking mode failed to identify the offending vehicle on each occasion.

Owing to the nature of the battery arrangement on the Tucson, I chose to disable the parking mode on my current camera as it is incredibly sensitive to road rumble as HGVs and double decker buses speed past my parked car on the street near my home. Before I did that, I was receiving an announcement every morning when I started the car, informing me how many events had occurred overnight or from whenever I had parked if I hadn’t used it for a few days.

I don't see how.
The mirror isn't a permanent live feed, so the dash cam is off when the ignition is off.
There's no drain on the battery.
I've not had any issues and if you think there is for you, contact Dongar to talk your issues through with them.
They appreciate and respond positively to feedback.

The only time I drive the wifes HEV is for service or out of garage to clean it. Met a guy at service and talked HEV with him and he complained to Hyundai Service about loss of 12v power and was warned re his camera fitting and leaving door open when cleaning/hoovering. I was fascinated as SWMBO had lost 12v 3 times in her 3 years of owning it and doesnt have a cam and we still dont know why it dies.

howitis: So it's nothing related to a dash cam feed?
You may as well warn about having the doors open when cleaning.
There's obviously something wrong if a HEV drains a 12v battery in no time...
Have you tried raising the issue with Hyundai Customer Support, if your dealer can't trace the problem.

The issue was raised at 1st service over 2 years ago with no helpful response, this site had numerous owners complaining of same issue with no answers, so just got on with life. When the doors are open perhaps the interior light feed is activated?. I can only go on what a Hyundai service guy said on 2nd service some 18months ago, and he should know.
