I’ve just changed my 73 reg Tucson ultimate for a 74 reg Tucson ultimate. The older car had a small button on the door handle which if pressed immediately locked the car so long as the keys were in my pocket. The new car has got a sensor on the handle instead of the button.. It’s a bit hit and miss whether the car locks when I touch the sensor. I’ve tried rubbing my thumb across it, pressing my thumb (and other fingers) on it, holding the handle momentarily, holding the handle for a bit longer and various other things but I get mixed success. I wish they had kept the button it always worked.
Does anyone have a solution to the correct way of doing it. I might have to go back to the dealer and see how they master it.. Any ideas?
Unlocking/locking car with door handle sensor
Not sure if this applies to the new model as have not yet received mine.
Lots of cars now are moving to an auto lock system whereby you unlock via the sensor on the front door handles. When it comes to locking you just walk away. You will notice a beep to say it is going to lock and once you move away from the car it locks beeping again. No beep means it is not going to lock automatically, maybe due to a door not closed properly or some other reason.

Madowl- Thanks. Strangely enough my car unlocks as I approach it but it doesn't lock when I walk away. It seems that the frustration of trying to get the right method of touching the sensor is widespread in the USA. So it’s not just me.
Here’s a comment from someone on the Tucson forum (USA)
The touch/swipe/slide door handle lock/unlock feature sucks! At least that's been our experience
Sometimes they work effortlessly, sometimes never, sometimes what I did to unlock just keep making it lock, and times it's unlocked and just continues to unlock. Very frustrating but just using fob now as I've given up on this POS "feature". Maybe there's something the dealer can do as I can't imagine everyone has this system that works in this totally random nature.
Thats describes my experience exactly. I think ill visit the dealer in due course, but for now ill just use the key fob.

My 24/25 facelift has the button which is great. My wife's Yaris has a sensor which can also be a tad unpredictable especially when wearing gloves as she often does. When I approach my car the mirrors fold out but the doors remain locked. They remain out when I walk away again. For the life of me I can't see the point of this.
My facelift also has buttons, it doesn't autolock when you walk away, when you lock with the button, the mirrors fold in, as they do if you lock remotely using bluelink, yesterday I accidently left mine unlocked, and got a bluelink notification on my phone, which then allowed me to lock it remotely(I was about quarter of a mile awaypecon wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 10:51 pm My 24/25 facelift has the button which is great.
