Previous updates correspond with Europe ones. This website is for Hyundai updates overall. When you’re out of free updates, you can buy one there even for Europe.
I put "That site is for USA and Canada" in quotes, because that is what it says:-

mapnsoft.com.png

I investigated further, because it didn't feel like "The official Hyundai System & Map Update" site ...

MAPNSOFT.COM is registered with GODADDY, by someone who claims to be a private individual, who doesn't need to reveal their identity. It links to an actual registrant called "DomainsbyProxy.com", but that is just more obfuscation (it too belongs to a private individual).

The Privacy Policy for the website, makes reference to "Hyundai AutoEver Inc." - which is a real (Hyundai) company. The contact address they give (3545 howard way costa mesa ca 92626) appears to be actually
occupied by "Sovereign Lending Group Incorporated"

I seriously doubt they are authorised by Hyundai to sell maps, or that there is anything official about them

That would be fine, if it were applied consistently, in all the places it appears. It isn't!

It's applied where it matters.
I should imagine most folk reading my post, couldn't care less whether the identifying strings say "NX4" or "NX4e", but the car's software might. If it does a simple test (i.e. is the version "The Same"), it may well initiate an update that isn't strictly required. That may, or may not have an adverse effect...

BTW - I know that, of which I speak...

In 1999, I wrote automation scripts to roll-out many hundreds of Y2K patches, to many thousands of PCs, for a major Utility company. Every Microsoft executable file has a 64bit binary version field, but can also contain multiple language versions of the same, as simple strings of characters. The use of the latter, was a major source of strife, as they often didn't quite match :(

Excellent piece of research, ‘PhilHornby’!

Although Apple, Google, Microsoft and others have been trying very hard (so they tell us!) to ensure end users’ safety from fake websites and potential criminal activity, many people are still being caught out by, on the face of it, genuine web pages in places like ‘Facebook’ and other social media platforms.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to be certain about the authenticity of the individuals and companies we deal with through our inter-actions on the www. The advent of AI has simply exacerbated fears for many people.

Unknowingly hooking up with a fictitious website may seem perfectly innocuous now but......once the person or people at the other end have gained your.trust, things might change! Clearly, there are some computer-savvy individuals around who exercise their skills for purely mischievous reasons but others have far more sinister motives. In the meantime, all we can do is tread carefully when we venture online.

I should think total time was about 2 hours in all, and yes I turned off and resumed a couple of times

I wondered if AI could spot a fake website when it saw one. "No" is the answer

Worse, rather than saying "I don't know", it just took everything at face value and said everything was hunky-dory :!:

Having scrolled through the various comments, this update seems to be causing more confusion than usual.
My question is, why is there a reference to "non Bluelink vehicles"? None of the previous issues came with that caveat.
Like most contributors, I use Bluelink so I assume the update doesn't refer to me. I'm changing my Tuscon for a facelift model in a few weeks so I think I'll skip this update and see what I get in the new one.

I concur. The previous incarnation of the web site was archived by the "Wayback Machine" here: https://web.archive.org/web/20241206130 ... NoticeList (be patient!)

I downloaded the 'new' update and did a file-by-file comparison, with what I downloaded in August. It was identical in every detail!

(I found the actual map update file within the download. If the time-stamps are to be believed, the map itself, dates to about May 2024 (at the latest)) :(

I have now had 3 issues since this update was performed. The first was the volume shooting down to Zero, the second was the climate control passenger side dropping off sync and showing high immediately after turning it on and this morning also the passenger side showing a strange message above the temperature saying "ADS OFF". I've never seen this and googled it. A result said to hold down the Defrost button for a few moments and it would go away which it did. I am going to see about rolling back the software to the earlier where possible. Normally this wouldn't be possible but seeing as the firwmare version is the same I might simply give it a go.

Now the issues above are not all the time, I have the car moving on average 2-3 times a day and I've only seen these issues once each so 3 times total and the car has likely been on/off maybe 20ish times.

Maybe somebody can confirm this as I might be unable to roll back the software officially anyway. The website says the software update in brackets (for non bluelink vehicles). I'm quite sure that was NOT present when I downloaded it on the 17th January. That could be why the car is having issues in that my car IS Bluelink, the car is still able to "speak" to my phone and vice versa but maybe somebody can potentially say "I don't remember it saying that on the 17th either" otherwise if it did then that is on my head.

The Wayback Machine captured the website at 12:07:41 on the 18th January 2025 and it definitely said "January 2025 Navigation Map and Software Update". Unfortunately, it seems to have been only a partial capture, involving just that front screen.

It hasn't performed a capture since then, so there's no way to know when (or why!) it was changed.

(If you don't have them, I still have the files used for the August '24 update, which I could let you have. Since the map hasn't changed, it would bring the size down to 6GB or so (the map being a 19GB .zip file, that you already have)).

I don't know if a 'downgrade' of the firmware would be allowed though - it often isn't :(
