Been a while since on here

Car has 58,500 miles up to three weeks ago the car has been great then parked up and stuck in neutral AA came out plugged in machine and reset car it then worked for two weeks then a strange whining type noise occurred which occasionally which worsened from 20mph up
Called Hyundai they said as long as no warning lights it’s fine to drive but i insisted they look at the car so they booked in for 11th September I made sure lease company aware and they also said fine to drive

So today Sunday 1st September the car lost drive I parked up AA came out and reset something
He followed me home steady and the noise still happening

AA have insisted Hyundai recover car from my home and take to dealer to see what’s up, AA thinks obvious gearbox issue

No warning lights
No smells of burning etc

Lease company said hire car will be delivered 10am Monday 2nd so fingers crossed

Anyone else have anything like this happen ?

Blimey! You’ve certainly racked up the miles since you got the car.

Regardless, it’s disappointing to encounter such a problem and I just get the feeling that it may be an expensive fix. Good luck with getting it sorted quickly by your Hyundai dealership and please appraise readers here in due course of your experience with the dealership and/or Hyundai UK, should that be required.

I’m lucky it’s a lease to be fair
Hyundai have booked it in for the 10th September
AA dropped it off to garage on the 3rd Sept
They gave me a MG HS SUV for 3 days Monday
Lease company dropped off a Subaru forester last night
So least I have wheels

Will be interesting to see what the problem is on the 10th

Thanks, ’Nashy’, for providing that interim follow-up.

Good-sized replacement cars which is a welcome improvement over the commonly-provided small hatchback. Having said that, you’ll need deep pockets to keep the Subaru fuelled up.

I like the Forester but the ownership experience is a bit rich for my taste.

Can’t wait to hear what your KIA dealership has to say about the problem!

Okay, pleased to hear that they diagnosed and will fix under warranty but a Month, wow. Either their workshop is backed up or the part is on order or both.

Hyundai said it will take that long due to authorisation process and the actual gearbox itself

Glad I have a a hire though, not sure what would happen if it was not leased

gulp.

58,500 miles could well be beyond the end of the 5yr warranty for many owners. Let's hope this is a one off :!:

It does make you wonder how they come up with that repair cost. I don't think the gearbox is at all 'fancy' - it fact, it's probably less complicated than a traditional manual and more akin to a sequential motorcycle setup.
(The complexity being the HSG motor and control software, to manage the speed matching. Bikers handle it by 'blipping' the throttle when changing gear and don't care about the odd clonk ;) )

(For comparison, I had a reconditioned gearbox fitted to a Mondeo 2.0 in 1997 which was £600 (plus 14! hours labour).
