I have a 22 plate Sportage currently which I am replacing with the new N Line S. AH once pressed does stay on till I switch it off manually in my Sportage. Dont understand why Hyundai doesnt do that, weird. I will have to get used to this looks like.

Hi everyone,
I've just taken delivery of my 2024 Tucson N-line and I can see that the issue of the Auto Hold setting not being remembered is nothing new. Having read through all the posts here, I'd like to add that the Instruction manual supplied with my vehicle says the following (page 6-50):
"The Auto Hold On or Off setting is maintained when the vehicle is turned off. When the vehicle is restarted the last setting for Auto Hold is applied."
Currently this is not happening and I have alerted the dealership to what I consider to be an issue with the car (something clearly doesn't work as it should, so fix it please...).
I don't suppose there is an easy fix, even if there is one at all, but I will pursue it and let you know what happens...out of interest, the person I spoke to at the dealership tried this function on a 2023 Tuscon in the workshop and said that it worked as it should (it remembered the setting) but then tried it on another 2024 model out on the forecourt and found that it did not remember the setting.
Cheers,
Dave

I hope you get that little matter fixed as it’s something I would like to see incorporated in all modern cars. Having been in the habit of pressing the relevant button as part of my start-up regime on my previous car, it’s second nature for me to continue with that button press at every start-up.
Combined with the EPB, I find it a real pleasure to use, making for easy, relaxed driving in an automatic car a world removed from 20th century motoring with clutch pedal, anachronistic lever parking brake and left hand frequently off the steering wheel to change gear, apply the parking brake, etc, making it all seem like a real chore.

I prefer the autohold off most of the time as I like the traditional creep function of an auto box. The only time I use auto hold is in start stop traffic queues. Even on the steepest of hills the hill start function has held the car long enough to set off again.
That’s fine in a car with a traditional auto box as the buffer of a fluid coupling permits that. In DCT units, clutch wear occurs when creeping along at the point where 1st gear is engaging and disengaging just for the sake of creeping along. Autohold avoids that unnecessary situation.
There are several videos on ‘Youtube’ describing the ’Things not to do in a DCT car’. The advice is sound.

Surely the thing that avoids clutch wear in a DCT is the driver allowing a gap to form in front before moving off. They could decide to use auto hold or not, doesn't make a difference on my opinion.
As far as I know the 6AT (a "traditional" auto but with no torque converter) is not used on any car but the HEV and PHEV and those cars use electric motors to pull away - no risk of clutch wear. In the US the petrol model has an 8AT with torque converter so that will not suffer with clutch wear while creeping either.

They have sorted out the auto hold in the latest 2025 model. In my previous 2024 (73 reg) you had to press auto hold every time you started the car but with the latest model, once you press auto hold it stays on indefinitely until you turn it off again
