Do you use Waze by any chance, as that has an audible alert?
Yes i do use Waze but not all the time and the other day i went to Oxford without using Waze and got the alerts. It still turns the speed signal bold and red though.
I am going to apply the latest update tomorrow as i have just completed the download to a USB stick.
Would be good to know if that restores the sound. Either that or a system reset might do it.
So update is complete and I do not have any audible alert for exceeding the speed. Most frustrating.
Still have the camera warnings though.
Try exceeding the speed limit after you get the first camera bongs.
I don't ever recall getting an audible speed limit alert except when near after a camera alert.

Didn't get a speed limit alert this morning after a camera bong.
Surely this speed limit alert is a fault as otherwise what is the point of the option in the settings to et the alert with a specific volume.
