Another dealer Cars 2 in Wakefield carried out my first service two weeks ago and used 5w 30 oil, I will be giving them a call to find out why.
I wonder if it down to cost as I took out a service plan with them so using cheaper oil is a benefit for them, if I paid for the service would they have used the more expensive oil and charged me accordingly

I can understand it being5w-30 in the Middle East, but we are not (yet) there. If the handbook says 0-20 then that is what the dealers should be using. I am well aware, that the diffrences (apart from lower fuel economy) are minimal, but if the dealers can't follow there own instructions on this, what else is not followed? As to overfilling and giving a nonsense explanation (oil burning) then how much confidence does it engender that proper care (at a price) is taken of our vehicles when serviced?
Thanks to all who are reporting their experiences regarding the oil type.
Cheers,
Rob

Hyundai UK should clarify the situation once and for all. Either their recommended oil viscosity as listed in the Owner's Handbook is correct or it isn’t in the UK.

If they then attest that the oil their appointed dealers are using is incorrect, they should require that all cars affected must be returned to the offending dealership so that the oil can be drained, system flushed and new filter installed at no cost to the customer.

Just called the dealer he has agreed that the wrong oil was used in the service and has arranged for me to return next week and get the correct oil put in.
I will be looking for proof that this has been done(a new invoice or a copy of the job sheet) just to keep my records up to date in case of any future problems

Glad they have agreed to change it. Hopefully the forum helped to clarify also.

The many ways to extract extra cash from us. It's actually cheaper than 5W30 on-line.

I think it's just because it's something they wouldn't carry in stock as it won't be classed as standard oil.
Tho i could be completely wrong, no idea about this kinda stuff.

Hi,
To all those that have followed this thread, I am happy to report that the CEO of the (Multi site) dealership, subsequent to my email, telephoned me to let me know that the WRONG oil had indeed been filled in my Hybrid, and it should ONLY have been 0-20! He mentioned that there MAY be a link to DPF blockage in the us of 5w-30. The car is going in on Thursday for the correct oil and new filter. I would like to add that he was most apologetic for the way the dealership had responded to my query. It is good to know that there are people who listen and care about their customers. Full praise for READ Hyundai.

They're not the only ones who are confused.

Halfords doesn't think 0W-20 is suitable for my Tucson!
