Suppose it could be the fuel pump just as much as the battery fan, assuming they both run constantly when the engine is on? I'll get it into Hyundai local garage and see what they say

So decided against going in for a specific warranty investigation, threat of £180 No fault found fee made me think raising it during the annual service was a better way. Car went in today for that and I also had mentioned the smell of fumes on start up, whether the noise was a battery fan or fuel pump was still to be decided but the person I was speaking with thought likely fuel pump.

Turns out I had a whole bigger problem going on in that diesel was leaking out from the seals holding the injectors and hoses in, apparently looks like it was a bit of a botch job when I had full engine rebuild under warranty (cam tensioner pulley/camshaft break). So maybe it was the fuel pump, which has been working harder due to the diesel leak? Top of the engine is a right mess with melted plastic and disintegrating foam. Car obviously off the road but not sure when I'll get it back as although parts are available, the garage has no spare labour until later in the week. Central Hyundai CS are being their usual helpful selves by not offering a hire car unless the parts are out of stock.

I really feel for you in that situation! Hyundai should be treating royally all those affected by the mess created by that front-end pulley disaster which affected so many cars. Given that a Hyundai dealership repaired the damage but failed to do it properly, leaving you car-less is simply appalling!

Contacting KIA UK directly with regard to the circumstances in which you find yourself may be fruitful in your situation. Certainly, just accepting what you have gleaned from the dealership without escalating your complaint is likely to suggest that you are not unhappy with your situation.

Please keep forum members appraised of progress in this matter.

The car should be getting fixed on Thursday, fingers crossed they don't any more damage and have to order more parts. Luckily I am off work this week so not inconveniencing me too much, so if it's not sorted by Thursday afternoon I'll be ramping up my efforts.

Here's a picture of the mess they found under the bonnet
