Has anyone else had a Dashboard reset when driving?

By "Dashboard Reset", I mean it reverting to its Power-on state - i.e. Lane-Keep Assistance ON, Cruise Control OFF - (not sure about Auto-Hold...)

(I'm not talking about the Aircon settings, Map display etc - they're unaffected).

Mine has now done this three times. I use (Smart) Cruise Control whenever I possibly can, including in 30mph areas (I love the auto braking/stop-start function), so I noticed immediately.

The very weird thing - and I hate to say this out loud! - but the three resets have all occurred on the same stretch of road  :?

(Back in 2007, I had a Garmin StreetPilot C510, that crashed if you drove near a Netto supermarket. That sounded a bit far-fetched too, until it was discovered that the Netto Icon BMP file was totally different dimensions to all the others on the unit!)

That is a rather disconcerting occurrence, ‘PhilHornby’! Although I haven’t experienced the same syndrome in my HEV, I have heard of external electronic sources causing strange things to happen with vehicle electronics. Indeed, while in the USA, my friend’s car had a speed camera alert feature which was triggered correctly when in proximity with a camera. Unfortunately, other external devices also had the ability to cause an alert. The best we could come up with at the time was that certain shop burglar alarms were causing the false positives as we passed through some of those one-horse towns in Georgia and South Carolina during the hours of darkness.

His other car, an elderly Ford Mustang, sans any fancy electronic gadgetry, was unaffected on the same route at the same time of night while burglar alarms were in operation.

Like you, I use Smart Cruise for most of my time behind the wheel so it is rather worrying to hear that, presumably, some external source as yet unidentified, can trigger the unrequested switch off that you have experienced.

The reasons for this potentially dangerous action escape me as electronics are way above my salary band.....not that I have actually had a salary for twenty-odd years.☹️

Good luck in identifying the source.

This happened to me a few times when I first got my car in March 2022: turned out it was a faulty multi-controller switch as once it was replaced shortly after (within a month IIRC) of first reporting the problem never recurred. In my case it was both displays switching off & no power to indicators/hazards so I couldn’t let others know I was pulling over/had a problem!😲

Hope you get sorted pronto…🤞🏻

I must say I'd not even considered something like that!

I notice on the map (though it's not noticeable when you drive past), that there is an Instavolt EV Rapid Charging Station that seems to have appeared recently :o I wonder if there's a monster sub-station that feeds it?... I might have been the victim of an Electromagnetic pulse ;)

If this spot wasn't 15 miles from where I live, I would conduct some more structured tests :) As it is, I'm due down there on Friday, so I'll take more note of exactly what is being reset.

Make sure the flux capacitor is switched on and drive at 88mph to see what happens. If we don't hear from you we'll know the answer :-)

Genuinely I have something similar. I switch off the lane assist. But about a mile away from home it pings and comes back on at the very same spot. But not on the opposing carriageway going home. Sounds daft but in all honesty its true. When it is switched on it just gives a couple of bungs.. Always at the same spot going over a motorway whether there is electrical interference i do not know.

Cruise Control goes OFF, LKA comes ON. Fuel Consumption figures for the journey aren't affected and the Auto-Hold stays ON. This time, it happened a little further down the road

I think I should inform Visit Devon - Barnstaple could be the new Area 51 :D
